As a young boy, video games were pure entertainment, but they also became a distraction from my schoolwork. My mum, a strong and tough woman, instilled discipline in us from a young age. During school days, we weren’t allowed to play video games until the start of our holidays. And knowing Mum, her favorite weapon – the jandal – was never far away, ready to enforce the rules. As an islander, I certainly felt its impact more than once, but looking back, I now realize this was her way of showing tough love. Playing video games during school time was a definite “game over” for me.
The portrait of the famous Italian actor Bud Spencer represents my mum. If you’ve ever watched any of his films, you’ll know exactly what I mean.
