Kawakawa Vessel

$1,350

The Kawakawa Vessel is a hand-built porcelain form covered in overlapping kawakawa leaves, each one shaped and glazed by hand in shades of living green and teal. The bright orange fruiting spikes press out from between the leaves, the way they appear on the forest floor in late summer.

Kawakawa is one of New Zealand’s most recognised native plants, long valued in traditional Māori healing and a familiar sight in the ngahere. Here Maria Brockhill translates it into ceramic, layering leaf over leaf so the whole vessel reads as a single living plant caught in glaze.

This is an original, one-off studio work, not a reproduction. It stands as a sculptural centrepiece and works equally well as a statement vessel on a shelf, table, or plinth.
